Laser Dentistry - Less Bleeding

During surgery using traditional methods of a scalpel to make incisions the large cuts into the gums would cause quite substantial bleeding. And the wounds would also have a tendency to bleed after the operation, resulting in patient discomfort.

How Does Laser Dentistry Reduce Bleeding?

There are two primary ways lasers reduce bleeding:

1. Smaller Incisions – since lasers are more accurate and make smaller more precise cuts in the gums bleeding is less as there is less open wounding. The smaller wounds also heal quicker meaning less post-operative bleeding.
2. Better Clotting – the laser heat actually aids the severed blood vessels in coagulation or clotting, meaning during surgery the exposed blood vessels clot quickly and therefore spill less blood. This benefit is not available while using a scalpel.
